Salt Lake Baptist Association Hispanic Pastors Fellowship
11 Attend SLBA Hispanic Chaplaincy Training
On Friday night Saturday October 10 & 11 we completed our first ever Hispanic Chaplaincy training with 11 volunteers completing the Chaplaincy manual and OSFA (Operational Stress First Aid) course and are now eligible for endorsement by the North American Mission Board. Enio Aguero, National Disaster Relief Chaplain Coordinator, was here leading the training. For Salt Lake Baptist Association Disaster Relief Director Mark Madison this was really exciting since for some time he has been burdened by our Hispanic disaster victims. Mark says this segment of disaster victim population is often overlooked because of a language barrier and their lack of knowledge of how to apply for assistance. Having trained Chaplains that are speaking their language will not only help them recover spiritually and emotionally but will give them advocates to help them apply for assistance through disaster agencies. Madison also shared that in the recent Wellington flood there was a trailer home park that housed a number of Hispanic families that worked in the area mines. There were 24 mobile homes that were flooded and most were condemned forcing the residence to seek housing elsewhere. Probably over half of these were Hispanic families who were in need of assistance. We can now serve these people with Chaplains that speak their own language. Praise God for these Hispanic volunteers and there commitment to serve in Disaster Relief.
Josué Romero Ordained to the Gospel Ministry
Josué Romero has been serving Iglesia Bautista Ministeros Nueve Vida as pastor for several years. In June the Church called for the ordination of Pastor Romero. The Salt Lake Baptist Association Hispanic Pastors Fellowship organized an ordination council and held a time of examination and prayer with pastor Romero. After determining the results of the examination were favorable the council recommended the church hold an ordination service and officially ordain Pastor Romero. On August 23, 2014, Pastor Cesar Garcia, Pastor Rafael Gutierrez, President of the Hispanic Pastors Fellowship, Dan Walker, Executive Director of the Salt Lake Baptist Association, and Pastor Alejandro Velasquez, joined with the congregation in Wendover, Nevada to hold the ordination service. Pastor Romero was presented (in the picture above) with his ordination certificate.
